Fathers (poem)

I should have written this for Father's day, but it was not put on my heart until now.

FATHERS

When you held me
As a child
You always rushed off
With your life

When you looked at me
As a teenager
You were blind to
My pain
And my growth

When you talk to me
As an adult
You are trying to re-raise
Me........now

It is never too late
Fathers
To re-develop
A relationship
So peaceful
And loving

It is never too late
Fathers
To listen and learn
To love and live
From your children

Fathers
You have to
Open your eyes
To the right now
To the right here
To the child you have
Not the one you missed

Fathers
You have to
Open your hearts
To the love
Pouring out
From the child you have
Not the one you missed

Fathers
Time is running out
It is never too late
To leave the past behind
To have a future
To love and live

Fathers
Time is running out
You can't be mothers
You can't be sisters
It's too late to be friends

Fathers
Just be you
Let them be them
And let go of the
Past......

Fathers
Live for today
